A/W Trend Makeup: Dark & Wintery.

 Hello my lovelies!

Today I'm bringing you my makeup interpretation of the current A/W trends now we're in that seasonal transition, and summer is well and truly over! It was welcome while it was here, but I love that winter brings us the perfect excuse to get out those berry tones for lips, cheeks and even sported by some designers (think Dior campaign) as a liner colour; truly beautiful!
The perfect Berry colour creme blush is on my list for this season, and with beautiful offerings from Chanel and Dior I would also love to know what recommendations any of you have!

Before I get into the rest of the post, you'll also find this post as a guest post for Hattie (her lovely blog is  http://www.project-rattlebag.co.uk  )  so she is the one to thank for the theme for this post!

Before I tipped out my makeup bag to select all the pieces I wanted to use, I had a research on the current trends. From Vogue, to Elle to trusty old Google for images from Fashion Week & came up with the conclusion of the below trends to pay attention to:

- Ladylike Looks
(think bold red lips but with a slightly smudged and lived in feel - taking away from the sharp precision of previous seasons)
- The Boy/Girl
(Minimal - perfect skin, with a light wash of gold on the eyes and cheeks, with a quick coating of your favourite mascara. Look to Burberry's show for how this look is reallly done!)
- The Romantic Ones
(Those of us who love a bright pop of lip colour, and don't want to let go of it over the Winter months..)
And for this look, themed 'Dark & Wintery' I would say I've combined the 'Lady Like' and 'Romantic Look' the most, however perfect skin is never out of fashion and helps give you a beautiful finish to your look.
To me, something dark means that you should not always dive straight to those darker colours! Work it up, and blend, blend, blend!

So here's my guide on how to re-create those eyes which I created with my new Urban Decay Naked Palette.
(Thank you, Jenn!)
1. Urban Decay Primer Potion all over the eyelid, to create a lasting base (amazing product! But you already      know that...)
2. Using the Urban Decay brush which came with my palette, which is fantastic and dense for this pigmented product, I applied 'Naked' all over the lid.
3. Now for the inner corner to mid-lid, I applied a mix of 'Sidecar' and 'Half Baked' to give a beautiful mix of champagne and gold, truly stunning to mix together!
4. Blending in circular motions to the outer corner to define the crease, I applied 'Darkhorse' for much needed definition to this eye look.
5. BLEND. Personally, I find that your finger is the best tool for this. The natural softness, combined with the warmth of your hand help you seamlessly and lighter blend this all together to give you that seamless look.

For a bright berry lip, I applied Topshop Lipstick in Beguiled. Such a great pigment to this lippy, so build up by gradual dabbing. Again, I used my fingers to blend it together and any product on my finger I lightly dabbed onto the apples of my cheeks to tie the look together. It's also gives you that, 'Just in from the snow glow.' Brrrrrr.

And the rest of my makeup:

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion (essential in winter weather!)

Clinique Anti Blemish Foundation in Alabaster

Lancome Effacernes Longue Tenue Concealer in Beige Sable (02)
MAC MSF in Soft and Gentle (as a highlighter)
Cargo Water Resistant Blush in Bali
Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray
Urban Decay Naked Palette
Guerlain Black Liquid Liner
Urban Decay Supercurl Curling Mascara
Topshop Lipstick in Beguiled.

Thank you so much for reading my post, I'd love to know your thoughts! And what is your style for this A/W going to be?

Much love,

  1. Just stumbled across your beautiful blog, I love it! I was reading this post thinking 'I wonder what lipstick she used?' only to then see it's Topshop 'Beguiled' which I actually have in my collection yet have hardly ever used, I'll be digging it out tomorrow, haha. Also, I love your hair! It looks so healthy and glossy, are there any products in particular you'd recommend?xx

  2. Hi Imogen! Thank you so much for your lovely comment, I really appreciate it :)
I've owned Beguiled for a while now but again, only worn it a couple of times - I always dab it on carefully to build it up since it can be a bit overpowering (for me and my peely wally skin anyway!) if I just I just swipe it on from the bullet. Shame the camera didn't quite do the colour justice compared to seeing the actual product, but I do love it anyway ;)

At the moment, I've been using ' Garnier Fructis Colour Last' in the Coloured and highlighted hair (hard to see in this post but my hair is ombre'd at the tips) and it contains Grapefruit Oil & Acai Berry which not only smell amazing, but have helped my hair feel really soft, manageable and with a nice shine too!
I have been pretty bad for switching my Shampoo & conditioning products at the moment (just been pinching what's in the house over summer) but my other favourites are 'Tresemme Salon Silk' (an amazing one for soft, shiny hair too!) and when I'm nearing the end of my student budgeting (usually buying too much makeup! ;) ) I often reach for the Alberto Balsalm 'anti-Oxidant Pomegrante' range.

I also am a MASSIVE fan of Macadamia Oil to apply to my damp hair before drying and styling, I really notice the additional softness and healthy shine that it gives my hair, especially as it's really quite long and of course, dyed at the ends which naturally makes it a bit weaker there! I've not used it in this post, as I've ran out so need to get online and purchase some more!

Hope this helps, and again thank you for your kind comment. I'm following your blog too, it's wonderful!
