Dior 'Blue Lagoon' Palette Review

I've been pretty slow on the uptake of getting a post together on this beeeeautiful palette from Dior, which I received as part of my 21st birthday gift from my lovely boyfriend.
I had this used on me by my lovely friend at the Dior counter in Aberdeen for Paul's Law Ball (almost a tongue twister we have there...) and it was stunning - so was lovely when he bought me the exact palette, he's so great at choosing things for me! I definitely scored.

So onto the palette itself, Dior Couleur 5 Eyeshadow Palette 'Blue Lagoon #374' is from the S/S13 'Bird of Paradise' collection and is one of two palettes released, the other was 'Peacock #434' which is much more green hued. Though, the colours of Blue Lagoon are more Peacock-y than Peacock actually is, so some weird logic there! Though Blue Lagoon is still a perfect description for these shades, agh!

As you can see if the below swatches, the colours in this palette are shimmery and do not have any flecks of glitter, which helps keep this look fresh and iridescent.
Maybe Blue Lagoon was a good name choice afterall.

Below: Outdoor colour swatches - no primer/ one swipe

The centre dark blue and the turquoise on bottom left also make AMAZING eyeliners, such a great quick pop of colour. Especially as blue is a bold eye colour to pull off, and before trying at the counter, is something I would have never picked up on otherwise.

This was my makeup look for yesterday for my lunch date with Paul. My original intention was a subtle hint of the blue, but that didn't really happen - what I ended up with was quite a full on blue eye, but I liked it so kept it. My monochrome outfit turned out to be a good choice!

The colours in this palette are well pigmented when applied well and on top of eye primer (my recommendation; Benefit's 'Stay Don't Stray!', hence my lack of a subtle look!  I think I just expected to need much more product than I actually did, so a simple wash of colour would just need very light application!
But Top tip!
* Don't use a fluffy brush with this eyeshadow, as it doesn't do much so instead use a much denser, and flatter brush to get a good colour payoff. I used my Benefit Talent Brush for this look. *
But if you do want that very light 'wash' look, a fluffy brush would do the job.

So I'm going to love and leave you with a few different pictures of me wearing this look.

Here's a list of all the makeup I'm wearing:

MAC Mineralise Skinfinish Natural in Medium Deep

  2. I always wonder how people manage these types of posts. I find it difficult to take pictures of myself. This colour looks lovely on you! Also loving your balayage hair too ;)
